Treatment focus

Psychotherapeutic approach

I work primarily with the concepts and methods of psychodynamic psychotherapy. My aim is to understand the person as a whole — with their strengths and vulnerabilities, their biography, and the problems and conflicts they currently face. I draw on current developments in the field, for example the Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnostic system (OPD-2/3).

At the same time I share the view of many contemporary psychotherapists (e.g. Wöller & Kruse, 2018) that psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, humanistic psychotherapy and systemic therapy do not exclude but in many respects complement one another. With this stance I hope to offer my patients the best possible treatment, while the focus of my practice clearly remains on psychodynamic psychotherapy.

In my practice I draw on the following approaches and methods:

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy: conflict- and structure-oriented psychotherapy (Rudolf, 2013; 2014); diagnostics and treatment planning using OPD-3 (Task Force OPD, 2023).
  • Existential psychotherapy (Yalom, 2010): finding meaning in life, coping with death and grief, dealing with loneliness and isolation, taking responsibility, making decisions.
  • Mindfulness and meditation training for stress reduction and the treatment of psychological disorders.
  • Positive psychology / positive psychotherapy: fostering positive emotions in everyday life.
